Summer stock professional theater. Led by Artistic Director Joanne Woodward, the Playhouse produces five theatrical productions from June to September interspersed with music concerts and children's performances. In addition, the Playhouse trains young artists for the theater through its intern and apprentice programs.

The Playhouse opened in 1930 and through the years has presented many stars of stage and film including Gloria Swanson, Helen Hayes, Henry Fonda, Gene Kelly, Liza Minnelli, Alan Alda, and Gene Wilder. Many productions transferred to Broadway, including William Inge's Come Back, Little Sheba.
