The Gothic Revival style of architecture dates from 1887-99 and is one of the few examples in eastern Oregon of the early settlement period. Samuel Hope designed the church and did the intricate carving that gives the church its distinctive appearance. While engaged in the time consuming work on the steeple, Hope was said to have been regularly taunted and pelted with rocks by boys on the ground. Luckily, nothing could distract him from his task.
