Toppenish is known as "The City of Murals." There are now over 60 murals depicting the history of Toppenish from 1850 to 1920.
"Rodeo" recalls the early Toppenish round-ups when cowboys and ranchers would get together for a little friendly competition. Artist Newman Myrah of Portland illustrates this them. A photo of Myrah working on the painting was so much to his liking that he came back and painted himself in.
"Blanket Traders" is a work by Robert Morgan of Clancy MT. Morgan used a catalogue from the turn of the century to amek certain the blankets being traded had authentic patterns of the time. The photo also shows antique street lights.
The Toppenish Mural Society was founded in 1989, and is a non-profit organization dedicated to beautifying the city through these works of art.
