Coldfoot is located in Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area at Mile 175 Dalton Hwy, this community is a stop between Fairbanks and Deadhorse where there is fuel, lodging, food, post office, phone and other tourist services. It is the site of an historic mining camp.
The mining camp was located at the mouth of Slate Creek on the east bank of the Middle Fork Koyukuk River.
A visitor center is operated by the Bureau of Land Management - Alaska, National Parks & Monuments and USF&WS. It is open June 1 through Labor Day.
There is also a 3,500 runway to the west.
Originally called Slate Creek, the town got its name from miners who got cold feet and departed, some of them to Wiseman to the north.
