Craig is located in P. of Wales-Outer Ketchikan Census Area on the western side of Prince of Wales Island. Craig is actually on an island connected by a short causeway.

Craig was once a fish camp for Tlingit and Haida Indians in the area. Craig Miller established a fishery here in 1907, which was followed by a sawmill and salmon cannery. Fishing and timber have had a boom and bust cycle, but continue today. Craig is also homeport to commercial and sportfishing boats. The Craig-Klawock King Salmon Derby is from April to July 4.

The Healing Heart totem pole is carved from a 500 year old red cedar tree and stands in Craig.
