Cripple Creek Campground has 12 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings. There is a seven day limit here. Recreational gold panning is permitted, and visitors can check out the short hiking trail which follws the Chatanika River.

The Steese Hwy is parallel to the river for 28 miles and there are many access and pullout points. Campers should preregister and pay fee to Bureau of Land Management - Alaska office.
