There are several old buildings and mine machinery here from when the Alaska Pacific Consolidated Mine Co. operated the most productive gold mine in the Willow Creek Mining District between 1938-51.

Recreational gold panning is permitted in the park and pans are available to borrow from the visitor center, which is open daily during the summer months. Guided tours are offered summer weekdays.

The 271-acre park is reached by turning on Gold Cord Rd at Mile 17.3 Hatcher Pass Rd, which can be reached by either Glenn Hwy/Tok Cutoff or Parks Hwy.
