The Kuskokwim River area lies south of the Yukon River. Gold was discovered in the river in 1898, although mining of the area was not full tilt until 1908.
The Kuskokwim River originates in the Kuskokwim Mountain Range and flows for 540 miles - making it one of Alaska's longest rivers. The river is very flat and wide - canoes, rafts, kayaks, and riverboats are all very suitable for the river.
