Lawson State Community College is a public institution, operating under state control, located in Birmingham, Jefferson County. The program leads to associates degrees.

Lawson is situated in the southwest section of Birmingham. The campus is readily accessible to students via Interstate 1-59/20 W, I-65 and U.S. Highway 11 South. The College serves students from the entire area of Jefferson and Northern Shelby County.
LSCC, originally known as Wenonah State Technical Junior College, was established by the Legislative Act Number 93, May 3, 1963. The first president assumed the responsibilities of that office on October 30, 1964, and the initial classes began on September 30, 1965.
The various Fields of Study include Business Tecnologies, Mathemetics and Natural Sciences, to name a few.
