Smith Lake has a total of 500 miles of shoreline and 21,000 acres of land covered by water. The L.M. Smith Dam, located in neighboring Walker County, backs up water within six miles of the City of Cullman making Smith Lake flow through Cullman, Winston & Walker Counties. It is the largest dam east of the Mississippi River and one of the largest in the world. Smith Lake is excellent for fishing, boating and water-skiing. It is the holder of five world fishing records and host to many champion fishing tournaments held each year. Smith Lake Park provides camping, boat launching, fishing, swimming pool, carpet golf, water slide, picnicking and pavilions.
