Stuttgart is located in Arkansas County northeast of Pine Bluff, between Clarendon and Wabbaseka along US Hwy 61, near the White River and Peckerwood Lake.

The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 9,797, a decrease of 623 since 1990.

Stuttgart offers many recreational opportunities for its residents and visitors to enjoy. It is regarded as the Duck and Rice Capital of the World. This is reflected throughout the city and the surrounding area.

The major rail line serving the area is Union Pacific. U.S. Highways 79 and 165 run through the county with eight additional state highways inside Stuttgart city limits.
