Grand Canyon Railway made its first journey to the Grand Canyon on September 17, 1901. Notable passengers to ride the train have included Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Dwight Eisenhower, Clark Gable and Jimmy Durante. The Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe ran the passenger service until 1968. It was reopened by owners Max and Thelma Biegert in 1989.
