Sun City is self-contained with many retail centers and restaurants offering a variety of shopping, dining and services. The town is unincorporated and depends on Maricopa County for services such as law enforcement, street repairs and zoning protection.

Eleven golf courses and seven recreation centers provide swimming, tennis, bowling and many activities.

Sun City is age-restricted requiring one member of the household being over the age 55.
