In 1954 Phoenix businessman Walter Cluer, purchased 1,400 acres of barren desert at what is now Bell Road and 19th Avenue. Cluer, a successful millwork founder and manufacturer, was also a horse owner. He went on to build a first-class race track in Phoenix.

The Turf Paradise Race Course features "thoroughbred racing in a paradise setting." The property also features a Turf Club Restaurant, a family picnic park, and a sports bar. There are also complimentary passes at most motels.

Racing hours at the Turf Paradise Race Course are from 1:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., weekdays and weekends.
