The district of Chetwynd is located in the foothills of the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains and a major transportation center for the north of British Columbia. It is 310 kilometers (192 miles) north of Prince George on Highway 97.
The Chetwynd Visitor Info Centre is open year round.
Although the district has a forest products-based economy, coal mining, ranching, tourism and the service sector make up the rest of its diversified local economy.
Chetwynd offers recreational activities in its virgin forests, rolling hills, crystal clear lakes, and snow-capped mountains. Their recreation complex includes a wave pool, team-sized hot tub, sauna, a curling rink, ice arena, and library. Visitors will also enjoy the Little Prairie Heritage Museum in town with its collection of artifacts and collections reflecting the history of this community from the early 1900s.
