Renowned for its climbing areas, scenery, wildlife, lakes and the Asulkan an Illecillewaet Glaciers this park is located near Revelstoke in the High Country region.
The park is where two weather systems, the moist Pacific flow and the cold, dry continental flow meet, with the result that a great deal of precipitation falls in this area. The heavy snowfall feeds more than 100 glaciers within the park boundaries and more than 10 percent of the park is under perpetual ice.
This is the terrain through which the Canadian Pacific Railway forged its route from coast to coast in 1885.
