At Gildas you will experience the splendor of the Laichwiltach people's masks, dances, songs and stories. Performances are an excerpt from the renowned Potlatch ceremony - a ceremony that has never been open to the public. This ceremony is the under pinning of Laichwiltach culture. Through this ceremony the Laichwiltach people unite families in marriage, name children, correct wrongs, pass on rights, responsibilities and privileges to the next generation, and share wealth. Guests will witness two major ceremonies of the Potlatch ceremony - the Tseqa, Red Cedar Bark Ceremony, and the Klasala, the Peace/Feather Dance Ceremony. In traditional times both ceremonies lasted for weeks at a time; today you will witness a shortened version of these two very important ceremonies.
