The Peace Arch was originally built to commemorate the lasting peace and harmony between the United States and Canada. It was dedicated in 1921. It was to commemorate the centennial of the signing of the Treaty of Ghent on December 24, 184, which ended the War of 1812 betwen Great Britain and the United States. The park currently provides 41 picnic tables, an indoor picnic shelter and barbecue with tables and chairs for 150. Responsibity for park management is shared between Washington State Parks and the BC Ministry of Parks. This is just one of hundreds of British Columbia Provincial Parks.
