The site of the historic "Last Spike" on the Canadian Pacific Railway, Shawnigan Lake is located approximatel 30 miles north of Victoria, off Highway 1 (The Transcanada Highway) (the turnoff is less than 30 miles from Victoria, just north of Mill Bay. There is an old restored church which is now the Auld Kirk Gallery, and the Shawnigan Historical Museum. Shawnigan Lake Provincial Park provides camping, picnicking and swimming facilites; or enjoy hiking, mountain biking and wilderness camping at Koksilah River Provincial Park.

Held at the Seattle Center in the Fisher Pavilion. The annual festival began in 1976 with a gift of 1,000 cherry trees to the city of Seattle from the Japanese government to celebrate the U.S. Bicentennial.
