On the road from Quesnel to Barkerville, 82 km/51 mi east of Quesnel and 8 km/5 mi west of Barkerville, Wells is a small town with a charm all its own. Established in the 1930's as a company mining town, Wells has developed a fine reputation as a retreat for artists, and hosts an art school every summer. Wellsians like to refer to Wells as "The Host Town to the Ghost Town," referring to Barkerville. The area is popular with snowmobilers and the Great Canadian Hill Climb is held annually in late March or early April.
