Bonne Esperance Abbey

Search Binche

The Norbertine Abbey of Bonne Esperance (Good Hope) was founded in 1126. Like many abbeys in the area, the monks were forced to abandon it during the turmoil of 1794. Unlike many other abbeys, the buildings have survived, including the main church, which includes a statue of Our Lady of Good Hope that was hidden during the supression then returned decades later.
