The first record of a European in Borrego Valley was when Lieutenant Pedro Fages of the San Diego Presidio came in search of deserters in 1772. His pursuit led him northwest through the present town of Borrego Springs and up Coyote Canyon.
The desert is a wonderful place to enjoy the outdoors and spend time participating in recreational activities. Many desert visitors go to the desert to camp, hike and experience the unique environment only found in the American Southwest.
Borrego Springs is located in San Diego County northeast of San Diego between Riverside and El Centro along Highway S22 near the Santa Rosa Mountains and the Salton Sea.
