Fresno Pacific University began as Pacific Bible Institute in 1944 with seven staff members and 28 students in a single building. Today, more than 200 faculty and staff serve over 2,000 students in 16 major buildings on a 42-acre campus. Bachelor of Arts degrees were first awarded in 1965 and the first accredited graduate program began in 1975. Fresno Pacific College became Fresno Pacific University January 11, 1997. This is the only accredited institution of Christian higher education between Los Angeles and Sacramento. Fresno is located in the Central San Joaquin Valley, between the Sierra Nevada mountains to the east and the beaches of the Pacific Ocean to the west. The 27 undergraduate majors include Chemistry, Church Music, Environmental Science and Pre-Law. The University is in Fresno County and has a total enrollment of about 1700. Athletic scholarships are given in basketball, track/cross country and other sports and student housing is available for 315.
