The City of Irvine was incorporated on December 28, 1971. Irvine is one of the nation's largest planned urban communities and encompasses over 47 square miles. Irvine has become a popular destination for many Americans to settle and in the last thirty years has become a large suburban community. Irvine is located in Orange County just southeast of Santa Ana between Santa Ana and Mission Viejo along Interstate 405 near the Santa Ana River and the San Pedro Channel. Irvine is part of the Orange County, California metro area.
