Los Angeles freeways are named as well as numbered. The principal ones are: - Interstate 5, or the Santa Ana Freeway, crossing northwest to southeast
- I-405, the San Diego Freeway, running generally southwest of I-5, which it joins at the northwest and southeast corners of Greater Los Angeles
- I-210, the Foothills Freeway, connects the northern tier of Greater Los Angeles communities
- Interstate 10, the Santa Monica freeway, begins at Santa Monica and crosses Los Angeles and San Bernardino County on its way to Arizona
- I-110, the Harbor Freeway, I-710, the Long Beach Freeway, and I-605, the San Gabriel River Freeway, run north-south to, or near to, San Pedro Bay and Long Beach This freeway allows direct access and terminates at the Longbeach Cruise-ship Terminal facility and the Hotel Queen Mary (hha).
In addition, there are a number of minor freeways acting as feeders and connectors.
