The main attraction of the Lone Pine area is undoubtedly Mount Whitney, The highest peak in the U. S. outside of Alaska, elevation of 14,496feet. There is an annual film festival in Lone Pine that pays homage to the history of film making in this area.
Visitors and residents of Lone Pine can get an early start in the Eastern Sierra with the opening day of trout fishing being the first Saturday in March. Mountain biking is another recreation popular in the area. There are many dirt roads in the Owens Valley that offer challenging rides.
