South Fork Mountain, the longest continuous ridge in the North American Continent, borders the towns of Ruth and Mad River. The Mad River has seasonal steelhead fishing. Hunter success runs very high every year, with trophy racks taken from high ridges of South Fork Mountain. The area has a variety of challenging hiking, horse riding, biking, cross-country skiing and snowmobile trails. Tours of medicinal, culinary and floral herb farms are available. On a clear day, an easy hike from the road to the peak of Black Lassic Mountains are within the Lassic Botanical Area of the Six Rivers National Forest.
