Mingei is a special word increasingly used throughout the world for "arts of the people." Folk art from around the world is featured at the museum, along with rotating exhibits. Videotape presentations detail the creative processes in native cultures.
The Museum is now located in a 41,000-square-foot facility in the newly reconstructed House of Charm building in Balboa Park. This state-of-the-art museum includes seven galleries, a theatre, library, collections access and research center, and educational facilities.
Mingei International Museum is located in Balboa Park at the corner of El Prado and the Plaza de Panama southwest of the fountain. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. The museum is closed Mondays and all major holidays.
