The museum officially opened its doors in 1983, and became one of the first museums in the U.S. dedicated to the finest in photographic art. The Museum of Photographic Arts has displayed works from every period in the history of photographic art, as well as from the best photographers of today. In addition, they now have a state-of-the-art movie theater and an ongoing film series to explore the art of film.

The Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily. Gallery admission prices are $6.00 for adults; $4.00 for students, seniors and military; and children 12 and under are admitted for free. Admission to the museum is free to the public on the second Tuesday of the month.

The museum is located in Balboa Park.
