Situated at the southeast approach to the Golden Gate Bridge, the Palace of Fine Arts is the last remaining structure of the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. The temporary structure survived until 1962 when the Beaux Arts rotunda and colonnade were re-created in concrete from castings of the original ornamentation. The palace is now in a park with a lagoon where swans and ducks swim. Also in the park is a thousand-seat theater, home to the San Francisco Ballet. The Palace of Fine Arts is open daily during daylight hours, and admission is free of charge.

All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet. Horseracing was part of that first fair and has continued to be a part of the fair ever since.
