Point Arena is on an isolated section of Highway 1south of Mendocino. The present lighthouse was built in 1908 to replace one damaged by the 1906 earthquake. The lighthouse is a popular spot for whale watching. Guided tours of the lighthouse are available. Historical items are displayed in the adjacent maritime museum. Stay the night on the point in a historic Keeper's house. Beautiful 3 bedroom, 2 bath homes, sleeps up to 6, fireplaces, full kitchens, satellite T.V., and incredible panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, within a stones throw of the lighthouse.

Point Arena Lighthouse hosts over 30,000 visitors annually. It has been featured in two films (Treasure - 1982, and Forever Young with Mel Gibson - 1992).The lighthouse is open daily except Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please call to confirm hours.
