Point Arena is on an isolated section of Highway 1south of Mendocino. The present lighthouse was built in 1908 to replace one damaged by the 1906 earthquake. The lighthouse is a popular spot for whale watching. Guided tours of the lighthouse are available. Historical items are displayed in the adjacent maritime museum.
