Miles of secluded beaches, rocky headlands, rolling hills, and stands of Douglas fir are all found at Point Reyes National Seashore, off Highway 1 north of San Francisco. The park's 65,300 acres provide habitat for more than 350 species of birds and 72 species of mammals. The park headquarters are at Bear Valley, just west of Olema on Bear Valley Road. Near the headquarters are the Point Reyes Morgan Horse Ranch, Kule Loklo (a replica of a Miwok Indian Village), and Pierce Ranch, former dairy ranch with self-guiding trail exhibits.
Popular pursuits within the park include hiking, bird-watching, beachcombing, picnicking and swimming.
The park has four hike-in campgrounds, for which permits can be obtained at the Bear Valley Visitor Center (415-663-8054).
