On September 29, 1964, the community voted to incorporate and selected the name, City of Thousand Oaks, honoring the abundant, majestic oak trees in the area. Thousand Oaks continually ranks as one of the safest cities for its size in the nation by FBI reporting standards. Average temperatures range between 65-75 degrees during summer months and 53-69 degrees during winter months; average rainfall is 14.98 inches per year.

Thousand Oaks is home to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. As the only performing arts center of its size between Los Angeles and San Francisco, the Civic Arts Plaza, provides outstanding entertainment opportunities to Southern California residents and visitors.

Thousand Oaks is located in Ventura County just northwest of Los Angeles between Ventura and Burbank along US Highway 101 near the Santa Monica Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
