Visalia is located in Californias San Joaquin Valley, a large and agriculturally rich basin that runs through the center of the state. Founded in 1852, Visalia was incorporated in 1874 Visalia.

Boating and Fishing are available at nearby Kaweah Lake located20 miles east of Visalia. While visiting Visalia, one can enjoy the local golf course, Valley Oaks. This beautiful course is located at Plaza Park and boasts a 27-hole championship course operated by the City of Visalia.

Visalia is located in Tulare County, of which it is the county seat, north of Bakersfield between Fresno and Bakersfield along Highway 63 near the Kings River and Lake Kaweah.

An association of downtown Visalians maintains a Web site for that area of the city.

Visalia is part of the Visalia-Tulare-Porterville, California metro area.
