Armstead C. Brown, who was considered one of Jacksons earliest settlers, built the Amador County Museum building in 1859. The Brown home was designated to house the Amador County Museum in 1949. There are numerous trees and shrubs shading the surrounding lawns and gardens. The museum collections include: A "Gold History Exhibit", "Dressed to the Nines" (fashions of the past), a Sewing and Quilt Exhibit, a Victorian Parlor, a Native American collection, a Chinese American collection, a Victorian Bedroom, an Old Fashioned Schoolroom, and much more Amador history. The museum is open 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The museum is closed Monday and Tuesday. Admission to the museum is by donation. Tours of the Kennedy Mine scale model are given Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on the hour.

All year Satellite Wagering, Waterworld USA, Paradise Island Fun Center and an RV Park are just a few of the features of the Cal Expo.The first State Fair was held in 1854 in San Francisco at the old Music Hall. The fair offered premiums (prizes) for its competitions and included such agricultural exhibits such as 2-inch-long peanuts, 72-pound beets and a 10-pound carrot that was longer than 3 feet. Horseracing was part of that first fair and has continued to be a part of the fair ever since.
