Delta is a small community west of Black Canyon of the Gunnison Ntl Park - Colorado's newest national park. The town's economic base is agriculture. Fruit production in this area is a long-time business.
Visitors can take a self-guided walking tour of the town's historic downtown area, or visit Dry Mesa Quarry where the fossilized remains of many huge prehistoric creatures are on exhibit. The site is a working dig open to the public. It was where the first Brachiosaurus and Ultrasaurus bones were discovered in the 1970s.
Outdoor recreation is available within several nearby national forests. Fort Uncompahgre is a living history museum where interpreters guide visitors through an old fur trading post. Delta also serves as the western terminus for a scenic 20-mile stretch of Hwy 92.
