The Ballard Institute & Museum of Puppetry (BIMP) is located in the School of Fine Arts, on the Depot Campus of the University of Connecticut, just off of Highway 44 in Storrs-Mansfield. The Institute carries over 2,000 puppets from around the world. Exhibitions reflect different styles and periods in puppetry.

BIMP was established as a non-profit organization in 1987 with the goal of preserving the collection of puppets designed and created for over 60 productions staged at the University of Connecticut. The Institute is named for Frank W. Ballard, a world-renowned puppeteer, and founder of the Puppet Arts Program at UConn. Since the opening of the museum, a number of acquisitions were donated from puppetry professionals who wanted to ensure that their collections would be properly appreciated and preserved.
