Connecticut Children?s Medical Center in Hartford is the only hospital in the state devoted exclusively to the care of children.
The 123-bed facility consolidates pediatric programs and personnel that were previously provided at three hospitals: Hartford Hospital, the University of Connecticut Health Center, John Dempsey Hospital, and Newington Children's Hospital. It opened April 2, 1996.
A teaching hospital, it is the home of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine residency program in pediatrics.
Approximately 150,000 children are served each year in specialty clinics, the emergency department and inpatient units. As the Primary Care Center for the Hartford region, CCMC serves as "the doctor's office" for nearly 15,000 children. It is the largest pediatric primary care service for children between Boston and New York. Pediatricians provide such primary care services as well-child checkups and immunizations, and care for minor illnesses.
