Furness

Search Visit

The District of Furness is a detached portion of Lancashire, on the northwest side of Morecambe Bay. The ruins of the Furness abbey (founded in 1127), near Dalton, are among the most interesting and picturesque in England, especially the Norman arches at the entrance to the chapter house. The abbey was founded by Benedictine monks who later joined the Cistercian order.
