Grasmere is located at Grasmere Lake, home of Wordsworth and
his sister from 1799-1808. There is a Wordsworth Museum in
tribute to the famous writer and his circle of family
and friends. There are also manuscripts and other materials
from famous and not-so famous writers, as well at the museum.
Every year the Wordsworth Summer Conference is held which
looks at the works of Wordsworth and his contemporaries.
The Church of St. Oswold, built in the 13th-century, has the
graves of William Wordsworth, and his wife and sister. Another
attraction during August is the Grasmere Sports, held annually
since 1852 with fell-racing and Cumberland wrestling.
