The Houses of Parliament are located in a series of large
neo-Gothic, 19th-century buildings. They were built between 1840 and 1857 according to designs by Sir Charles Barry, on the site of the former Palace of
Westminster. The image of the Houses of Parliament overlooking the Thames is one of the most enduring images of London.
There are separate chambers for the House of Commons and House of Lords. Tours are offered during non-session hours on Friday afternoons.
