Margaret of Anjou was born in 1430, daughter of Rene of Anjou. She became queen consort of Henry VI. Owing to Henry's imbecility, Margaret's authority became supreme. She strove to uphold the rights of her son Edward in the War of the Roses until captured at Tewkesbury in 1471. She was ransomed by Louis XI and died near Saumur in Anjou.
