The Appleton Museum of Art is the focal point of the 44-acre Appleton Cultural Center; the classical-style travertine marble museum building includes 30,000 square feet of gallery space and serves as one of the South's premier art repositories and education centers. Originally built to display and preserve the collection of Arthur I. Appleton, the museum has expanded to include traveling exhibitions, educational programs, and cultural events. Other museum facilities include a 250-seat auditorium and the recently-opened Edith-Marie Appleton Wing, which houses a two-story exhibition gallery, an art library, workshop, and conference rooms. The Appleton Museum is open daily, closed Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Under 18 admitted free.
