This unique pre-Columbian 6-mound complex, considered to be one of the oldest continually-occupied sites in Florida, with a history beginning around 200 BC. It is estimated that the complex, now a National Historic Site, may have been visited by as many as 7,500 Indians annually.

The grounds feature a visitor center/museum which contains the park office, a collection of artifacts collected at the site, interpretive exhibits relating archaeological excavations begun in 1903, and a short video outlining the site's history. Restrooms and a small gift shop are located near the museum.

The mounds can also be seen from the 1/2-mile paved loop trail, which includes an observation deck with beautiful views of the Crystal River from one of the 'Temple Mound' sites. Guided tours are available for groups with advance notice; the visitor center/museum is open daily.
