The two story palace is fronted by a wrought iron gate on Alii Dr. It was built in 1838 by the governor and it served as the king's summer palace until the 1880's. The palace has been restored and is open for visitors. Tour guides discuss the history of the Big Island through the context of the palace and its artifacts. It is closed Christmas and New Year's Day.
