This is the northern, mountainous area of the Big Island. Lava flows down toward the sea are interrupted by towns, motels, condos and resorts located here to take advantage of the good weather.
There are many outstanding golf courses in the area that help give the Big Isalnd the title of Hawaii's Golf Capital.
