The oldest frame building on the Big Isalnd. David and Sarah Lyman were Congregational missionaries in the early 1800's. Some furniture and decorations are filled in from other island homes, but much is the original furnishings.

It is open Monday to Saturday 9am-5pm; Sunday 1-4. Admission is charged. The museum's gift shop sells a walking tour map of old Hilo town explaining the background of historic sites and buildings. The museum was built in 1973.

It houses and displays unique artifacts such as wooden spitoons, historical dress characteristic of Hawaii's various ethnic groups and the world's only Hawaiian land shell (snail) display. Pure excitement for resident and visitor alike.

Merrie Monarch Festival Hilo HI June7-9 Merrie Monarch Festival is a week-long cultural event held annually in Hilo on the island of Hawaii. Festivities start on Easter Sunday and culminate with the Hula competition events at the Edith Kanaka'ole Tennis Stadium - Miss Aloha Hula on Thursday, Hula Kahiko on Friday, and Hula 'Auana on Saturday.
