Pahoa is located in Hawaii County on the western side of the Hawaii the Big Island, between Keaau and Kaniahiku Village along Highway 130 near the Nanawale Forest Reserve, the MacKenzie State Recreation Area, and the Lava Tree State Monument.

Pahoa has wooden sidewalks and storefronts dating back 100 years, and is home to the Akebono Theater, which is the oldest in the state.

Annual Maui Steel Guitar Festival Maui HI April19-21 Featured performers will also conduct on-site school visits to various Maui schools to educate and and inform Maui's youth about the Hawaiian steel guitar. These visits, targeted specifically for students of these schools, includes both educational sessions and entertainment by the visiting performers.

Merrie Monarch Festival Hilo HI June7-9 Merrie Monarch Festival is a week-long cultural event held annually in Hilo on the island of Hawaii. Festivities start on Easter Sunday and culminate with the Hula competition events at the Edith Kanaka'ole Tennis Stadium - Miss Aloha Hula on Thursday, Hula Kahiko on Friday, and Hula 'Auana on Saturday.
