From its location on the southern banks of the Illinois River 2 miles southwest of Marseilles in La Salle County, the 500-acre Illini State Park is a haven for songbirds, waterfowl, and other wildlife. The young workers of the Civilian Conservation Corps made their mark here in the 1930s when they constructed some of the park's rugged stone picnic shelters.
