Pop.4096 (1990) Elev.1386'. Located in the North Central Region of the state, in Mitchell County. (of which it is the County Seat), in the Solomon River valley. Beloit is along the Solomon River near Glen Elder State Park and Waconda Lake.
Originally homesteaded in 1866 and incorporated in 1872, Beloit began at the foot of Mill Street, at the Solomon River, where the Beloit Mill was built. There a spring gushed forth and was a stopping place for Indians, soldiers, buffalo hunters and settlers on their way westward or looking for homesteads in the area. The beauty of the valley is enhanced by the surrounding Smoky Hills in the land of the Kansas Post Rock. Chautauqua Park, one of Kansas' prettiest, is located on the Solomon River, and offers visitors a chance to enjoy this natural beauty.
In June, Beloit hosts the Kansas 8-Man All Star Football Game - two divisions.
Beloit has an annual Homecoming Weekend on Memorial Day Weekend.
St. John's Harvest Festival is in July in Beloit.
